Mao

Eight years ago, junior high student Nanoka Kiba was pulled from a traffic accident that claimed the lives of her parents. Nanoka lived her life without any major incidents until one day, she visited a deserted shopping street rumored to be haunted with her classmates. There, she found herself in a town inhabited solely by supernatural beings called yokai. Suddenly, a monster attacked her, but she was rescued by the intervention of a strange man named Mao and his attendant, Otoya.

Mao treated Nanoka's injuries and revealed that she was actually a yokai herself. In disbelief after returning to her own world alone, she discovered she had awakened superhuman powers. When she crossed into this other world again, she learned that Mao was a skilled martial artist. As they talked, she remembered that the accident in her childhood had been caused by another monster. She soon realized that this world wasn’t another realm, but May 8, 1923 in Japan. From that point on, the Great Kanto Earthquake, which coincided with the day of her accident, began to approach.
